Chocolate and peanut butter lovers beware, you’ll be sorely tempted to guzzle the whole slab at once! It's crunchy, chewy, sweet, and salty all at once!

Recipe Ingredients

Rice Krispies: Use the original Rice Krispies or a generic one. You can also use puffed rice, found in Indian grocery stores.

Peanut Butter: Smooth or crunchy, use any kind you enjoy.

Sweetener: I used honey in this peanut and chocolate Rice Krispies recipe. You can substitute it with maple syrup.

Chocolate: I love using 70% dark chocolate for this recipe. For vegan bars, switch to dairy-free chocolate.

Cream: This recipe uses coconut cream to make a rich creamy chocolate topping. Feel free to use regular cream.

Sea salt: It balances the flavors of this dessert bar so well, so please don't skip this.

Please see the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

Recipe Variations

The most popular version of these peanut butter Rice Krispie treats is with mini marshmallows. You can add them to the peanut butter and honey mixture, and heat it on low until they melt.

You can also stir in finely chopped nuts to the peanut butter and honey mixture.

For a chewier and heartier bite, add oats to the Rice Krispie mixture!

Step 2: In a small saucepan, combine the peanut butter, honey, and sea salt and heat over a very gentle heat. The mixture should be just heated through and melted together.

Top Tips

  • Allow the peanut butter squares to set well in the refrigerator. This will help you cut neater pieces.
  • Dark chocolate works the best in this recipe as it balances the sweetness of the Rice Krispies mixture.
  • Don't skip the sea salt. It really rounds up the flavors beautifully.
  • I used an 8" round pan but an 8" or 9" square pan will also work well.

Topped with a decadent layer of chocolate, the super easy-to-make treat needs no other embellishment. Texturally, the peanut butter rice crispy bars are just right. They are crunchy and light and the chocolate gives it that little luxurious vibe!

Recipe FAQs

Can I make peanut butter Rice Krispie bars gluten-free?

Yes, just make sure the Rice Krispies are labeled gluten-free.

My Rice Krispies didn't stick together?

This can happen if the cereal and peanut mixture is not moist enough. Simply add more peanut butter and honey to the rice cereal.

How do I store Rice Krispie treats?

I like to store these peanut butter squares in the refrigerator. They'll stay well for 4-5 days.
