They add natural sweetness and moisture. You can even use frozen bananas. Thaw and drain them before use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Flour<\/strong>: All-purpose flour keeps the texture tender. You can use whole wheat flour, but the texture will be a bit dense. I've also made these banana walnut scones using a combination of all-purpose and quinoa flour, and they turned out great!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Butter<\/strong>: <em>Cold butter<\/em> is key for flaky layers. You can use chilled coconut oil if you prefer.  If you\u2019re using salted butter, then skip the salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cinnamon<\/strong>: Adds warmth and depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sugar:<\/strong> I used regular white sugar. Feel free to swap with light brown sugar, raw sugar, or coconut sugar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cream<\/strong>: Adds richness and helps bind the dough. Keep it cold. Use a little to brush the tops for that golden finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vanilla extract<\/strong>: I love adding vanilla extract for flavor. Use store-bought or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tashasartisanfoods.com\/blog\/homemade-vanilla-extract\/\">homemade vanilla extract<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Walnuts<\/strong>: For crunch and nutty flavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chocolate chips<\/strong>: Optional, but highly recommended in these banana chocolate scones. Don\u2019t love walnuts? Pecans add amazing texture and taste.
