You can go up to 2 tablespoons to really make the pleasant savory taste speak volumes. I also used cream instead of beaten egg whites to brush the scones, and lastly, I sprinkled chopped cilantro in the dough.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How did the miso scones taste? Like heaven. You\u2019ve likely heard of miso soup, but it\u2019s used to season a whole slew of dishes \u2013 salads, stews, spreads, etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It looks like a paste and is made by fermenting water, salt, soybeans, and <em>k\u014dji, <\/em>a fungus. The combination of sweet-salty-savory-nutty flavors find uses for the paste in any corner of the kitchen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s an enlivener of stir-fries. It\u2019s the savior of baked goods. And it\u2019s even scrumptious in ice creams - so I've heard, never tasted!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Essentially, miso can imbue any dish with an enormous amount of taste and savor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s fairly easily available online or in gourmet food stores. And because a recipe will always need only a small amount of miso paste, a single bottle of it goes a long way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-miso-scones\">How to make miso scones?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the face of it, miso scones look rather simple. It\u2019s after the first bite that you feel the layers of flavor followed by the thought, \u201c<em>My god! what is it?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The little man of the house kept repeating \u201c<em>so buttery<\/em>\u201d in-between gorging bites of the scones. Then using a fork, combine everything in a moistened clump.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn out on a floured surface and just fold the dough over itself a few times. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The dough comes together on its own in under 10 minutes. The flour always imparts a pillowy softness and buttery golden crunch to scones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can make them with <strong>whole wheat flour<\/strong> as I did for my Strawberry Orange Scones.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For gluten-free scones, <strong>buckwheat flour<\/strong> is a great choice. I\u2019ve made lavender buckwheat jam scones and lemon buckwheat scones with it.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-make-vegan-miso-scones\">How to make vegan miso scones?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of regular butter, use <strong>plant-based butter.<\/strong> Or <strong>try chilled, solid coconut oil<\/strong>. I\u2019ve baked blueberry coconut scones with it, and they were just as good as with butter.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Coconut cream<\/strong> will be an excellent substitute for milk. That\u2019s why <strong>I added fresh cilantro.<\/strong> You can always switch it for some <strong>parsley.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cheese, green onions, scallions, and any fresh herbs<\/strong> that float your boat will go just as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-serving-the-miso-scones\">Serving the miso scones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Miso scones are best served warm and are exceptional with soup \u2013 that\u2019s how we guzzled them down (barring the little man, who just kept tearing into the kitchen and eating them as-is).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recommend splitting the scone in half, buttering it, or slathering it with cream cheese.
