June is vacation time in this house..children are off from school and I shut shop for a week. So its 7 whole days of lazy summer mornings, afternoon naps, endless games of Scrabble, reading books and catching up with friends over leisurely lunches.  This slow pace of life is such a welcome change!

What stays constant in this laid back week, are my morning yoga sessions and breakfast smoothies.  Luxurious stretches and asanas ( pretty arduous, actually ! ) followed by a refreshing  BIG glass of smoothie, really I can’t think of a more fantastic way to start my day.  No matter busy the day may be or how easy, I  never miss this routine. Fortunately, everyone at home also looks forward to their “smoothie” mornings ( afternoons and evenings as well! ) which makes it even better and so much fun!!

Summer Fruits

So here we go, let’s make your mornings über delicious!

I never add any sweeteners to these fruit-based smoothies.  Feel free to substitute yogurt with milk, soy milk or even coconut milk…whatever floats your boat.  You could top your smoothies with flax seeds, almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, cocoa nibs or just blend any of these into your smoothie.  My homemade granola, which has all of these ingredients and more, is hands down our choice of topping!

If you have spotty bananas in your kitchen, slice them up and freeze them.  Ripe bananas are great in smoothies and for baking as they are sweeter and more flavorful.  I’ve gotten in the habit of slicing and freezing pretty much all fruits (with the exception of citrus and melons) in danger of spoiling.  I try to follow a  strict “no waste” policy!

Go ahead, make these delicious, easy, no- fuss drinks…nourish yourself.   Eat fresh, eat real foods, and eat well!
