What is brie?

Brie is a soft and creamy cow's milk cheese, named after the French region from which it originated. Itโ€™s pale, has an edible rind, and a soft, smooth interior. Called the King of Cheeses, Brie has a mild, buttery flavor with a slight earthy undertone.

It is a popular choice for savory and sweet dishes like cheese platters and sandwiches, and it is also commonly used in recipes like baked brie with fruit preserves.

Why you'll love baked brie with fig jam?

Itโ€™ll become your go-to appetizer for parties

Or a simple cheese board for a quiet night at home with loved ones

It looks absolutely fancy, but itโ€™s not complicated at all!

Easy Baked Brie with Fig Jam

How to make baked brie with fig jam recipe?

I know a lot of the recipes I post are easy. But this one is super simple by all standards. Itโ€™s a top it, pop it, and enjoy it kinda easy baked brie appetizer. Thereโ€™s nothing you have to do except gather the ingredients!

  1. Take the wheel of brie and place it on a cast-iron skillet or oven-proof dish lined with parchment paper (optional, but I prefer it).Brie on parchment lined cast iron skillet

  2. Spread 2 to 3 tablespoons of fig jam thickly using the back of a spoon.wheel of brie topped with fig jam

  3. Top with chopped pistachios and walnut halves.chopped pistachios and walnuts on top of the brie cheese

  4. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the brie is soft and gooey around the edges.Baked Brie with fig jam and nuts

  5. Cool for 5 minutes.

  6. Dig right in and scoop the baked brie with fig jam with bread,ย chips,ย or crackers.

My recipe notes

  • You can leave the brie in the wooden container it comes in or place it in a dish like I did. It helps the cheese hold its shape. Itโ€™s not necessary to cut the rind off.
  • Let the fig jam spill over the sides of the brie wheel for that deliciously gooey melting mess effect.
  • Avoid over-baking brie recipes with jam; the goal is creamy, not soupy.
  • And keep in mind that brie can firm up fast. Test for perfect meltiness by gently pressing the top of the rind.

Swaps & subs

Cheese: An expensive brie is not necessary for this fig jam and cheese appetizer. Use whatever is available in your local supermarket. I use an entire wheel because it looks prettier and has more room for baked brie toppings. Canโ€™t find Brie? Use camembert; the cheese is very similar to brie with an earthier touch.

Serving ideas for baked brie with fig jam

After the brie and fig jam had cooled to a gooey level (about 5 minutes), I transferred it to a platter to make a quick cheese board.

  • Sprigs of rosemary went on top to garnish the brie fig jam, and on the sides, I added strawberries, almonds, grapes, figs, and olives
  • You can even serve it with slices of no-knead cranberry walnut bread, jalapeno cheddar bread, crostini, or as part of a cruditรฉ platter withย easy oven-roasted carrots.ย
  • or charcuterie with cold cuts and dips like labneh, tzatziki, avocado cucumber, or gochujang mayo.
  • Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy this easy appetizer.

Brie cheese toppings

You can try baked brie with fig jam and walnuts. You can make baked brie with fig jam and pistachios. Or do a mix of both, like me.

Honestly, all nuts are fantasticโ€”hazelnuts, pecans, and even macadamias. They get lightly toasted in the oven, and the texture is just next level.

  • Allergic to nuts or donโ€™t like them? Omit them. Instead, try fresh figs, pears, or dried cranberries.
  • After baking, drizzle some honey. I sometimes like to pour a teaspoon of olive oil. This is completely optional, but it tastes great.
