Avocado bread is a beautiful bread with a lovely avocado flavor. It's super moist, and the quick bread recipe's walnuts are the perfect foil to the buttery-ness, lending the anytime snack a lovely texture.

Avocado Bread Recipe

Avocado bread is all the rage on TikTok. I didn’t know the quick bread had gone viral, well, because we don’t have the app here in India. I came across it on Pinterest, and because it was so similar to banana bread (and I’ve made one too many of those), I decided to whip up a loaf.

For those new to the green-delicious world of avo bread, it’s not the toast you often see. The one schmeared with it. This a quick bread that has lovely green fruit mixed into the batter. And it really is the best bread ever. It is what avocado loaf bread dreams are made of.

Avocado Bread Recipe

Why you'll love avocado bread?

It’s an ingenious idea for quick bread if you hate banana bread but love avocados.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how tasty, vibrantly green, AND easy the bread is.

Moist, loaded with flavor, but not too sweet or oily.

It's fantastic toasted!

Avocado Bread ingredients

Ingredients & swaps

Flour: It’s a dense bread, but it has a very tender and moist crumb thanks to all-purpose flour. You can substitute it with whole wheat.

Eggs help bind the quick bread. To make eggless avocado bread, replace it with an equivalent amount of flax egg or yogurt, as I did with my coconut banana bread.

Avocados: Pick the super-ripe ones. 1 large or 2 medium-sized will be sufficient.

Sugar: Cane or raw sugar works like a charm if you don’t have caster sugar. Most recipes use ¾ cup of sugar. I used much less. You can easily up the sugar if you like a sweeter bread.

Fat: I used a neutral-tasting vegetable oil because I didn’t want to overpower the subtle flavors of avocado. And that’s what I would suggest you go for.

Walnuts: Almonds, hazelnuts, cranberries, chocolate chips – almost anything is *chef’s kiss* in this simple avocado bread recipe. Or just bake it plain with no add-ons.

Matcha is entirely, entirely optional. I added it to give the loaf that stunning, verdant color. It was only after I baked the avocado walnut bread that I realized it didn’t need any. The fruit is enough to give the loaf a green color.

You don’t taste the matcha at all, so if you’re a fan and love it in your chocolate, cookies, or bakes, increase the amount to make avocado matcha bread. Also, stick to good-quality matcha.

How to make avocado bread?

Step 1: Sift and whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and matcha powder (completely optional).

Step 2: In another bowl, mash well a nicely ripened avocado.

Step 3: Add eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla extract to the mashed avocado. Give it a good whisk until everything is mixed properly.

Step 4: Add the dry ingredients to the wet.

Folding walnuts into the batter

Step 5: Fold chopped walnuts into the avocado matcha bread batter and then pour into a well-greased 8 by 4-inch tin.

Step 6: Top with more walnuts.

Step 7: Bake for 50 - 60 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Step 8: Let the avocado walnut bread cool in the tin and then on a wire rack.

Final step: Serve warm or at room temperature and savor!

My tips

  • I cannot say this enough. Use ripe avocados for this easy avocado bread recipe. Unripe avocados will give the avocado loaf a bitter taste, which we don’t want. Plus, riper fruit makes it easier to make a smoother, creamier batter.
  • Love a domed loaf? Then don’t overmix the batter. With the avocado quick bread recipe, it’s best to mix until the flour is just folded in.

FAQs

Is this the viral avocado bread TikTok recipe?

No, this is a vintage avocado bread. The OG. The one that was made with oil. The TikTok avocado bread recipe doesn’t use any added fat. It relies on the natural ones avocados already have.

How to store the leftover bread?

Wrap it tightly in cling wrap or foil and refrigerate. It keeps well for 4 to 5 days. Nuke it in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds, or warm it in a preheated oven.

How to serve avocado bread?

Avocado walnut bread is incredible when toasted. Out of the world incredible. It’ll be a big hit with everyone, so I definitely recommend toasting it on a griddle or toaster.

Slather it with butter, and you have breakfast from heaven! Or have it as-is; avo gives the quick bread all the good fats, so a slice is delicious even without anything.

Because the loaf has minimal added sugar, it’s not a very sweet bread, so it pairs deliciously with tea or coffee.

Without a measure of about how much avocado, this recipe fails me, I have a few overripe avocadoes, I can only use part of each.

Hi Jody, so typically, the edible part of an average avocado weighs 5 oz or 150 gms. That's the amount you can use for this recipe. Hope this helps:)
