Crispy, golden, and naturally sweet, these baked sweet potato fries are a healthier cousin to the classic French fries! Lightly seasoned and oven-roasted to perfection, they’re irresistibly snackable and come together with just a few simple ingredients and 10 minutes of prep!

These oven-baked sweet potato fries are tender and soft inside with a caramelized, crunchy edge. The natural sweetness of the potatoes pairs deliciously with herbs and spices. like paprika, oregano, and thyme, in this case! They are perfect for snacking, salad sides, or dipping into your favorite sauce like yum yum sauce or whipped feta.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
✨ Sweet potato fries are what I call an anytime recipe. Great as a side, perfect for snacking, and even as a quick appetizer!
✨ Sweet, spicy, savory, and crispy all at once, they are excellent finger food. And so easy to make because the oven does all the work.
✨ They’re oven-baked, not fried. So, you get all the flavor and crunch without the mess (or extra oil). Plus, they’re just as good fresh from the oven when reheated the next day, making them wonderful for meal prep. I ALWAYS make extra!
✨ Sweet potato fries are also a great way to use and eat easily available seasonal veggies. Like these oven-roasted carrots and air fryer pumpkin! Roasting them intensifies their flavor, caramelizes them, crisps up the edges, and leaves the inside irresistibly soft.
✨ You can season them any way you like: classic paprika and garlic, herby rosemary and thyme, or even a chili-lime kick. They’re endlessly customizable and work with whatever’s in your spice cabinet.
✨ The oven-baked sweet potato fries recipe is easy to serve. Plate them alongside burgers, grain bowls, or as a stand-alone snack with hummus or tzatziki.
Recipe Ingredients

Sweet Potatoes: Choose whatever variety is easily available to you. You can peel them or leave the skins on (like I did) for extra texture. Slice them evenly so they cook at the same speed. Use any extra to make these yummy sweet potato cutlets!
Olive oil also adds a lovely fruity flavor. You can swap it for any oil you prefer.
Paprika is a color-and-flavor booster. You can use degi mirch/ Kashmiri red chili powder too. It gives a very gentle heat and a gorgeous red hue.
Seasoning: I used thyme and oregano for a savory taste with a little sea salt to bring out the flavors.

Variations
Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet and earthy. They take up the taste for any seasoning you love!
- Keep it classic with just salt, pepper, and olive oil.
- Turn up the heat with peri-peri seasoning or Korean gochugaru
- Give them an Indian twist with garam masala or chaat masala.
- Finish with a pop of green with fresh parsley, cilantro, thyme, or rosemary.
How To Make Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Step 1: Set the oven to preheat at 220°C (425°F).
Step 2: Clean the sweet potatoes thoroughly. Slice the sweet potatoes lengthwise into sticks. Try to cut into even-sized pieces.

Step 3: Put the sweet potatoes in a large bowl. Add olive oil, salt, dried oregano, thyme, and paprika.

Step 4: Mix well so each sweet potato piece is coated with the oil and spices.

Step 5: Spread the slices evenly on a baking tray in a single layer.

Step 6: Bake for 15–20 minutes, flipping every few minutes with a spatula for even cooking.
Final Step: Serve warm!

Pro Tips
- Cut thin for crispy, oven-baked sweet potato fries. Slice thick for chunky wedges. Both are delicious, just different personalities. You can also cut them into rounds.
- Try to cut the sweet potatoes evenly. This will help in even cooking.
- Give each fry space. Crowding or piling the tray means steaming, not crisping. Spread them in a single layer for golden glory.
- When they’re nicely browned, switch on the broiler for the last 4–5 minutes. It’ll blister the slices, making them extra crispy.
- Reheat the fries in the oven, air fryer, or skillet. The microwave will make them soggy.
How To Serve
Baked sweet potato fries are a joy all by themselves. Crisp on the outside, tender inside, and full of flavor. Serve them solo. That’s what I do. Or you can serve them alongside a burger or a sandwich.
But let’s be honest. Fries and dips are a match made in snacking heaven. Here are some of my favorites:
- Vegan mayo because it’s creamy and tangy.
- Guacamole or creamy avocado dip
- Good old ketchup. Classics never disappoint.
- Gochujang mayo for a little heat.
- An Indian favorite, mint chutney

Recipe FAQs
How long you bake sweet potato fries depends on how you slice them. If you did thin fries like me, bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping every 5-7 minutes or so for even cooking. Thicker slices may take another 5 minutes or so. Remember
The most common culprit is overcrowding the tray. Give each slice a little breathing room so it roasts instead of steaming. Also, remember to bake them at a high temperature, 220 °C / 425°F, as mentioned in the recipe card.
Yes, you can make these in the air fryer. Bake them at 200 °C / 400°F for 10-12 minutes. Want more air fryer recipes? Try my air fryer falafel, air fryer pumpkin slices, and air fryer tortilla chips.
