Hellooooo!!
Back here today with a smoothie recipe after a really long time. I haven't given up on them at all. Too lazy, I guess, to take pictures and post! But this Fig & Date Smoothie made such a compelling case at home, that it just had to be shared. Take a look at the fun little video we made to show you our yummy breakfast!
With the changing weather, we are out of the refreshing , juicy summer fruits. Now we have cartloads of pears, apples, papayas, pomegranates, persimmons and fresh figs ( though not in great abundance!) All of which go so well with warming spices like cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon....For now I'm happy to add them to my smoothies!
Fresh figs have a wonderfully sweet taste and a soft texture. They are very delicate and highly perishable. You can enjoy the dried fruit all year round though. Well known for their health properties, figs are high in soluble fiber, hence used extensively as a natural laxative. They are powerhouse of essential minerals like iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium and vitamins K and B6. Whether you eat them fresh or in dried form, you are sure to get a hefty dose of anti-oxidants. Combined with amazingly nutritious dates, you've got yourself a power packed start to the day!
If you can't get fresh figs for your smoothie, simply soak 2-3 dried ones in a little warm water for a few minutes. Use with the water in your smoothie!
Eating real, healthy food doesn't have to be boring or a drag to cook. I hope you enjoy this delicious, easy-to-make, refined sugar free smoothie as much as we did. Use a frozen banana for an even more creamy result. The thicker you keep the consistency, the more filling this is ..... Keeps those hangry snack attacks at bay, trust me. 🙂
